About this site
Why this site? Well, when I was a child my older sis read 'The Hobbit' to me. I was incredibly impressed by Thranduil. Later, I liked Legolas in 'The Two Towers' a lot, because he was so concerned for his companions. Then I found the sparce information about Oropher. Finally, I discovered to my utmost horror that Tolkien fans rarely notice these characters and if, they often do so negatively. Let's face it: most people even like Legolas only since Orlando Bloom appeared in the movies -and only because of that! I searched the books for facts and working on this site confirmed: generally the Sindarin princes are viewed totally wrong. Tolkien himself had noted that and tried to defend these characters many times. There is so much hidden information to be found, especially concerning Thranduil. I hope this site will help to correct the strange idea many have about the Mirkwood royalty.
Why Isaacs and Brett? LOL, in fact I had thought Daniel Day-Lewis to be a good Thranduil and Jason Isaacs to be the perfect Glorfindel. That chance passed and seeing that Fin and Thranduil are somewhat alike in my head, I changed the idea. Plus, Ariah who made the photo manips for this site dedicated a banner to me that showed Isaacs as Thranduil. I fell in love with that pic and since then I'm tempted to write a nice little letter to PJ to tell him to cast Jason Isaacs as Thranduil and no-one else (should he ever manage to make the Hobbit film).
It was exhausting to search for a good Oropher. I had several ideas, but never found appropiate shots for the manip. So in the end my friends and I came up with Jeremy Brett, known as Sherlock Holmes. I also chose him to honor my mum who really loved this actor. Sadly, Jeremy Brett died several years ago, but then again you can't expect a movie about 'The Silmarillion' to be produced, so at least there won't be disappointment because someone else got the role. The explanations of my reasons to do this site and do it just as it is are quite superficial as offered here. If there are any questions left you are welcome to send me an email. I hope to post essays that will elaborate my ideas here soon.
